Family time capsule ideas
Selva, founder4 min read
A family time capsule is a collection of things from today, sealed for a day in the future. Everyone can add something.
What to put in it
A photo of an ordinary day, everyone saying hello, a drawing, a note from each grandparent, the price of a loaf of bread.
Try this: record everyone at dinner saying one thing they love about today.
When to open it
Pick a date that will matter: an 18th birthday, a graduation, or ten years from today.
“Pick a date that will matter.”

Digital or paper
Paper is lovely but fragile and easy to lose. A digital capsule can hold voices and video, and arrive on the day even if no one remembers.
Make it a family project
Invite grandparents, aunts and godparents to add something. Each voice makes it richer.
Questions
How long should a time capsule stay closed?Anything from one year to twenty. Milestones such as an 18th birthday make natural opening days.
Can several people add to one capsule? In TrueKin, yes. Invite family and everyone adds to one delivery.
